Pediatric Surgery, Close to Home
AdventHealth offers pediatric surgical care for children of all ages. Providing general surgeries, sedation and anesthesia services, diagnostic care, and outpatient care.
The three main stages of surgical preparation are pre-surgery, the day before surgery, and the day of surgery. During the pre-surgery stage, you should schedule a tour of our facilities so you and your child can feel more comfortable with where the surgery will be performed. You should also arrange for any necessary childcare services. If your child is in school, contact teachers to make arrangements for missed school days. You could even begin thinking about enjoyable post-surgery snacks.
The Day Before the Procedure
The day before the surgery, check your email for any last minute changes and updates. You should double-check the eating and drinking guidelines to make sure you are in compliance. If your child will be staying in the hospital overnight, make sure to pack a sufficient travel bag. Also, don’t forget to jot down any questions you may have for the medical team.
The Day of the Procedure
On the day of surgery, ensure that your child is dressed comfortably. Check to see if you have all essential items such as medications and a favorite toy or stuffed animal. Children’s Tylenol or Ibuprofen may be necessary to help reduce pain after the procedure, but only use medications that the doctor has termed safe. You may also want to bring some items to keep yourself occupied such as books or crossword puzzles.
Please be advised that each age group requires unique preparation essentials. Teenagers may need cell phones, movies, and laptops, while smaller children may require bottles, formula, and sippy cups.
